Scope: A submersible pump is defined as a close-coupled pump/motor unit designed to operate submerged in the pumped liquid. This definition includes submersible pumps operating in either a wet-pit or dry-pit environment. A standard test measures pump performance from suction flange to discharge flange and electrical input power. It does not include accessory items, such as discharge elbows, suction fittings, or valves, unless specified by a contractual agreement.

Scope: Rotodynamic pumps (centrifugal, mixed flow, and axial flow pumps) of any size and to any pumped liquids behaving as clean water. This standard applies to a pump by itself without any fittings. (The pump may also be tested with a combination of upstream and/or downstream fittings by prior agreement and agreed on contractually.) This standard is intended to be used for pump acceptance testing at pump test facilities, such as manufacturers’ pump test facilities or laboratories only. 

Three grades of accuracy of measurement: grade 1 for higher accuracy, and grades 2 and 3 for lower accuracy. These grades include different values for tolerance factors for allowable fluctuations and uncertainties of measurement.

This standard does not apply to submersible or sealless pumps.
